Unlocking Apple wireless 802.11n

If your mac runs with Intel's Core 2 Duo processor then you have a wireless 802.11n chip setting built into mac hardware. According to Apple this 802.11n technology can give five times the performance and twice the reach of wireless 802.11g.
Unfortunately we have to wait until February until the firmware is available to unlock wireless 802.11n. Even worse, we’ll have to pay two dollars for the firmware according to CNET.
There must be an easier solution. Users of Windows XP via Parallels have been able to unlock the 802.11n chip. As of January 20th there is no OS X solution. Please let me know if you have a solution and I would be happy to link to your site.
